Evan Marker
Recent works in stone
Evan's interest in working with stone has extended from it being largely a construction based activity as a Stonemason, to the exploration of stone sculpture. He responds to the increasing mechanisation of traditional crafts by drawing on traditional skills where the use of the hand and eye are more important than the use of machinery. Evan is influenced by the natural, raw beauty of dry-stone construction as well as by
traditions in stonemasonry where hand-tools are used to create ornate architectural elements and in carving stone inscriptions.
He has recently returned from the U.K. where he explored the art of carving letters in stone as part of a Churchill Fellowship.
